Sustainability

Did you know that the Naval Museum has a long-term policy for reducing its negative effects on the environment?

The Naval Museum is working for a cleaner environment

The Naval Museum has a long-term policy for reducing its negative effects on the environment. Our museum is environmentally certified according to the international standard ISO 14001. This means that we have declared to continuously improve our efforts towards sustainability.

Our policy towards a cleaner environment:

All waste from our offices, workshops and restaurants is sorted for maximum recyclability.

We work continuously to reduce our use of fossil fuel. An electric car has replaced one of the museum’s petrol-driven company cars. In 2008 the number of dangerous chemical products used in the museum’s workshops was reduced by 5% compared to 2007, and this work continues. We use fully biologically degradable paints for the keels of the museum barks and smaller boats.

In all purchasing deals we demand environmentally friendly alternatives.

In 2008 all staff members underwent eco-training.

Our sustainability goal for 2011:

  • Increase the general awareness about our eco-friendly work among our visitors and collaborators.
  • Reduce the relative environmental impacts of business travel by 1% by choosing transport according to CO2 emissions.
  • Reduce energy consumption in kWh by 1 % in 2011.
