Smaller Navy boats
These were used for vital missions and were irreplaceable to the crew of the larger ships – take a closer look at the Navy’s smaller boats in the Sloop and Longboat Shed.
The18th century Sloop and Longboat Shed lies immediately beside the main Naval Museum building. This unusual house is named after the so-called longboats, and sloops that were originally kept in this building over the winter.
A large number of small boats are still housed in the Sloop and Longboat Shed as well as the museum’s exhibition on naval sloops and other smaller boats which once belonged to the Royal Navy’s larger ships.
Important small boats
These small and very important boats were used to transport crew, food, material and necessities between the large ships and land. They could also be used as lifeboats and for teaching sailors the basics of seamanship.
In the summer a number of the Naval Museum’s sloops from the 19th century are set sail by the society called Carlskrona Båteskader (Karlskrona’s Boat Squadron). These sailing tours are open to group visits booked in advance.
The Sloop and Longboat Shed is a living and active part of the museum. We still build, maintain and renovate small boats here. The Litorina Folk High School holds its courses in boat building here.
