The struggle for supremacy in the Baltic
Sink Danish ships, row a sloop and learn the commands of naval warfare. Understand the struggle for the Baltic in the Naval Museum’s exhibition on Sweden as a sailing super-power.
We have all heard about the time when Sweden was a great power, but did it work in practice when the Swedish Royal Navy controlled the Baltic Sea? You will find the answer in the Naval Museum’s exhibition Imperialism – the Struggle for the Baltic.
The reality of sea warfare
The exhibition helps explain the great sea battles and battle strategies that are described in our history books, and also shows daily life onboard the Swedish warships. The museum visitor is introduced to the realities of naval warfare and the life of the seaman during the 16th – 19th centuries when the great Swedish naval fleet of sailing warships patrolled the Baltic Sea.
Try firing a canon or rowing a sloop. Learn naval warfare commands. See how the sick and wounded were taken care of, what the crew ate for dinner. All this is included in our exhibition on the epoch when Sweden was a sailing super-power and naval force of war.
