Full-rigger Jarramas

She is small, lively and charming. We are talking about the former cadet ship Jarramas, the Naval Museum’s full-rigger which is at present undergoing full renovation.

At the far end of the Naval Museum pier, you’ll find the sailing ship Jarramas with its white hull and yellow masts moored. She is one of the world’s smallest  full-riggers and the last sailing ship to dock at  Karlskrona Shipyard in the year 1900, after which she served as a training ship for the former Swedish navy cadet corps (skeppsgossekåren) which existed from 1685 to 1939.

A lively full-rigger

This is a well-known and much-loved ship with the unusual name of Jarramas, which is Turkish and means the lively one. Just now she is being renovated down to the smallest detail, with the goal of restoring her to her full glory.

In the summer you can join a guided tour onboard and hear more about the history of Jarramas and life in the former cadet corps. You can also go onboard on your own and follow the progress of the renovation.
