The Naval Museum is part of the Swedish National Maritime and Transport Museums, SMTM, which is a government agency under the Ministry of Culture that works to preserve, develop and build knowledge about the cultural heritage of our maritime and transport history. SMTM also manages and develops the Maritime Museum, the Vasa Museum and Vrak – Museum of Wrecks in Stockholm, as well as the Swedish Railway Museum in Gävle.
SMTM – Sweden's Most Modern Government Agency 2023
The Naval Museum, Vasa Museum, Maritime Museum, Vrak – Museum of Wrecks and the Swedish Railway Museum are all part of Swedish National Maritime and Transport Museums (SMTM), which was named Sweden's Most Modern Government Agency 2023. This distinction was awarded at the Conference on Quality in the Public Sector on 21 November 2023 in Gothenburg.
“As a central museum agency, we consider it very important to remain part of our current times and to constantly grow and develop. This distinction serves as recognition that there is a lot that we are getting right, and gives us renewed energy to continue our endeavours to develop the museum, Karlskrona and Blekinge as attractive tourist destinations,” says Mats Persson, Director of the Naval Museum.
A modern approach, a clear focus on sustainability and the ability to utilise the latest technology – these are some of the reasons why SMTM was named Sweden’s Most Modern Government Agency 2023.
