Summer at the Naval Museum
Historic ships, life as a naval cadet, and stories from the Naval City. From 22 June to 9 August, the Naval Museum offers daily activities for visitors of all ages.
Along the waterfront, the museum ships Jarramas, Bremön and Västervik are open to visitors throughout the summer. Visitors can also explore the historic Sloop- and Longboat Shed, join guided tours, and discover stories spanning 500 years of Swedish naval history.
– At the Naval Museum, visitors don't just read about history – they can step aboard it. From experiencing life as a naval cadet aboard Jarramas to guided tours of the lower deck of HMS Västervik, we offer experiences that bring history to life," says Cornelia Melin, Programme Manager at the Naval Museum.
Experiences for the whole family
Every day, visitors can join guided tours of the museum ships and take part in activities aboard Jarramas, where children and adults alike can experience life as a naval cadet by learning to tie knots, swab the decks, and hear stories about everyday life at sea.
Those looking for a more in-depth experience can book guided tours of the lower deck of HMS Västervik, try traditional rope making, or sail aboard historic naval boats in the Karlskrona archipelago.
Ship Days featuring visiting vessels
From 1–3 August, the Naval Museum hosts Ship Days, celebrating historic naval vessels.
On 1 August, the motor torpedo boat T38 will be open to visitors. On 3 August, the missile boat HMS Ystad – the world's only operational vessel of its kind – will visit the museum. Visitors can step aboard the ship and, by booking in advance, even join a trip at sea.
– Our Ship Days offer a unique opportunity to experience vessels that are not normally on display at the Naval Museum. Being able to step aboard them – and in some cases even sail aboard them – makes history come alive in a very special way," says Cornelia Melin.
Practical information
The museum is open daily from 10:00 to 17:00. The museum ships and the Boathouse are open daily from 11:00 to 16:00.
The daily activities are included with admission to the Naval Museum. Some activities require advance booking.
