The Naval Museum Library is a reference and research library focusing on the history, present (and future) of the Swedish Navy. The collections include everything from modern literature to older collections. Here you will find books on everything from naval warfare and military history to technology and shipbuilding. The shelves also contain literature on galleon figureheads, how sailors lived on board, navy officer registers and other items related to naval history.

Like other Naval Museum collections, the library dates back to 1752, when the Model Chamber was founded in Karlskrona. The Model Chamber contained a number of ship and design models built at the time to test various technical solutions and ship designs. According to inventory lists, it also contained as many as 28 books. Among the books listed are descriptions of fireworks, regulations and instructions of various kinds. Our collections also include parts of the library of the ship designer and shipyard admiral Fredrik Henrik af Chapman, as well as some of his scientifically important books, which he also wrote.

Although the Library does not loan out its books, you are welcome to read on site while enjoying a fantastic view of the sea in an impressive library designed by architect and furniture designer Åke Axelsson.
