Current theme: "Report from the field"
A new themed exhibition about the Home Guard was inaugurated on June 6, 2024. The exhibition is based on a collaboration between the Marine Museum and the 37th Home Guard Battalion during the military exercise Aurora 23.
Between April 17 and May 11, 2023, exercise Aurora 23 was conducted. The exercise was attended by 26,000 men and women from the army, navy, air force, home guard, and military units from other countries, including the United States. Aurora 23 was the largest military exercise in Sweden in three decades. The Marine Museum followed the 37th Home Guard Battalion as observers and had the opportunity to take photographs, listen to discussions at gatherings and even talk to participants.
The exhibition tells about both training events that the museum's observers witnessed, but above all it is about a number of people active in the Home Guard. Among other things, the aim was to find out what motivates them to get involved in the Home Guard. The exhibition also features objects that are important to them, things that they have donated to the Naval Museum's collections after the exercise. The Naval Museum will preserve the collected objects, photographs and stories for the future.
