The entrance to the museum is on the ground floor, with no stairs or thresholds, and is accessible by wheelchair, mobility scooter and walking aid.

Parking

There are a limited number of parking spaces outside the museum for visitors with a valid parking permit (for visitors with reduced mobility). If you do not have a parking permit, your driver can drop you off at the museum entrance and park your car in the visitor car park at Sparregården.

Inside the museum

Spaces and lifts

The Naval Museum has large open spaces and lifts between the two floors.

Restaurant Bistro Skeppsgossen is located on the ground floor and is fully accessible to visitors with reduced mobility, with ample space for manoeuvring and moving around and tables that accommodate wheelchairs.

The Naval Museum shop is also located on the ground floor.

Accessible toilets

There are accessible toilets on the ground floor, in the cloak room next to the information desk.

Borrow a wheelchair

A limited number of manual wheelchairs are available to borrow free of charge during your visit. The wheelchairs can accommodate a maximum width of 60 cm. They can be collected from the cloakroom, next to the information desk on the ground floor. Please note that wheelchairs cannot be reserved in advance.

Hearing loop

The museum’s auditorium is equipped with a hearing loop.

Seating

Seating is available in selected exhibitions and public spaces. Most of our seating is in the form of benches and stools. There are some seats with backrests in selected exhibitions and in the auditorium.

Service and assistance dogs

Service and assistance dogs are welcome at the museum. The dog must be with you at all times and be clearly labelled as a working dog.

Limited accessibility

Accessibility is limited in some parts of the museum:

  • In the Submarine Hall, the submarine Neptune has limited access, with a maximum width of 60 cm.
  • The museum ships Bremön, Västervik and Jarramas have limited access in several places and it is not possible to board with a pram, wheelchair or other assistive device.
  • The Sloop and Longboat Shed has a sloping floor that can make access difficult for visitors using a wheelchair or other assistive device.

Sensory information

The museum can sometimes be crowded and noisy.

  • The quietest times to visit the museum are right after opening and just before closing.
  • Our exhibitions, restaurant and shop are usually at their busiest in the middle of the day.
  • Our most hectic times are during the summer period, at weekends, during school holidays and public holidays.
  • The quietest time of the year is during the low season, from 1 September to 31 May.

Lighting and temperature

Light levels vary throughout the museum. Some of the exhibitions are dimly lit to preserve the artefacts. Other rooms have natural or bright light. We sometimes have moving lights as part of our exhibitions.

The temperature may vary as you move through the museum, and some exhibitions and spaces are colder. During the summer season, it can get quite warm in the museum, depending on the weather and the number of visitors.
