Ultra quiet is a procedure used onboard a submarine. If you listen carefully, you might hear the command announced over the loudspeakers when you visit HMS Neptun in the Submarine Hall.
When ultratyst rutin is initiated, the vessel and crew must remain as quiet as possible. All activities that generate noise are limited. The crew is ordered to behave as silently as possible to avoid detection by the listening technology of other submarines—so-called sonar systems.

Game Instructions

The aim of the game is to cross the "ocean"—the game board—with as few penalty points as possible.

  1. Start by dividing into teams. Choose one person to keep score.

  2. One team lines up at one short end of the game board. You are the listening team. Your task is to listen for enemy submarines sneaking across the "ocean." Take turns standing at the front of the line, closing your eyes, and listening.

  3. The other team stands at the opposite short end of the game board. You are the sneaking team. Your mission is to cross the "ocean" as quietly as possible, one by one. If you’re detected by the listening team, every square you move forward earns your team penalty points. You must step on each row, but not necessarily on every square.

  4. The listening team gets ready. One player at a time becomes the team's "sonar"—the person who closes their eyes and listens.

  5. The sneaking team gets ready to cross the "ocean." One player at a time moves across the game board.

  6. If the sonar of the listening team thinks they hear a sneaking player, they raise their arm and fire a torpedo by shouting “Torpedo!”

  7. If the listening team is wrong—meaning the sneaking player was standing still—they may cross the game board freely, without collecting any penalty points.

  8. If the sneaking player was moving, the listening team scores a “hit” and the sneaking team earns penalty points according to the point chart below. The detected player leaves the board, and the next player takes their turn.

  9. If a sneaking player successfully crosses the “ocean” without being detected, all previous penalty points collected by their team are reset to zero.

  10. When all players on the team have attempted to cross, add up the penalty points.

  11. Now it's the other team’s turn to cross the “ocean” with as few penalty points as possible.

  12. The team that crosses with the fewest total penalty points wins!

Good luck!
